Happy Lunar New Year! It’s the Year of the Snake. But it’s also currently awards season. This past weekend were the BAFTAs which is another good look at which way the industry regards the year’s top films.

Stephen Fry hosted the award again. He’s been funny in the past but while there were a couple of things that made me chuckle it was a bit subdued from what I usually expect from him. Actually the whole ceremony was subdued.

However, let’s skip to what’s important, the winners (and the clothes). But mostly the winners. So without further ado, the winners in the main categories are:
Best British Film – Skyfall
Best Original Screenplay – Quentin Tarantino, Django Unchained
Best Adapted Screenplay – David O. Russell, Silver Linings Playbook

As you would typically expect, Quentin Tarantino’s speech was a little odd but thankfully these aren’t the MTV Movie Awards and Quentin kept it as normal as possible for him.
Best Supporting Actor – Christoph Waltz, Django Unchained
Best Supporting Actress – Anne Hathaway, Les Misérables
Best Actor – Daniel Day-Lewis, Lincoln
Best Actress – Emmanuelle Riva, Amour
Best Director – Ben Affleck, Argo
Best Picture – Argo

I think out of all the acceptance speeches Daniel Day-Lewis’ was my favorite. Humorous, humble and to the point.
I’ve haven’t made significant headway through the Oscar nominated movies but I have a couple of weekends to go. If you had a chance to watch any of the Oscar nominated films and/or actress there is still time to vote for your favorite here. Until then, here’s a look at some of the hilarious promos for the ceremony hosted by Seth MacFarlane. My favorite so far is the Psycho promo.
