A hit is mysteriously put out on top Hallyu star, Choi Hyun (Kim Jae Joong). As Choi Hyun arrives at Seong Ju’s Paradise Hotel for a rendezvous with Angela (Kim Sung Ryung), the rich wife of a CEO, first-time assassin, Bong Min Jung (Song Ji Hyo), arrives first. However, the cops are staking out in the room next door to catch the assassin known only as the “Jackal” who recently left a note announcing he’d be there for his next kill.

AGAINST ALL ODDS
Detective Baek Hong Suk (Son Hyun Joo) goes after a presidential candidate Kang Dong Yoon (Kim Sang Joong) once he learns of his involvement in the death of Hong Suk’s daughter.
I wrote about this show in my Bananas post earlier this week. I had expected to write the review later but due to the writer collapsing from the stress of the show, the drama ended at episode 16 instead of 17. I’ll mention the major characters and the major plot points but unfortunately I can’t include everything I loved about this drama. There are a lot of characters and a lot of complex relationships. All these characters are chasing after something but depending on what you’re chasing after, it’s a very different type of battle. Hong Suk and Dong Yoon live in two very different universes and it collides when their goals directly conflict with each other. One chases after justice but it’s an arduous, uphill battle while the other chases after ultimate power but he’s got everything to lose.

I’m not all that into revenge plot dramas. I try to avoid them when I can but the trailer for The Chaser just caught my eye. It’s been given a one-episode extension followed by a special so it will end next week instead of ending this week. Though it’s almost over, I understand that the subs for it are slow and coming so you can still try and watch it, if you wish. I highly recommend it.
I saw comments on the Big forum on Soompi awhile back about people wondering why this drama is doing better in the ratings and since I watch both I just wanted to put my two cents in. The two dramas are very different and it’s very hard to compare them directly in terms of quality. In terms of numbers, Big is a trendy that’s geared towards younger audiences and younger audiences tend to watch more dramas on Wednesday and Thursdays. Hence why I was a little surprised that it ended up being a Monday-Tuesday drama. To understand programmers, they always want to pit shows that are very different against each other. If you can’t attract one audience, you’ve got another that’s interested in watching something different. I like that I can watch one and cry and watch the other and laugh.
