Fall is coming. It’s my favorite season as the weather gets crisper, leaves are changing color, hot apple cider sprinkled with cinnamon and new season of shows here in the States! For those that are interested, the US TV year is typically broken up into three parts. Fall season, Winter/Spring season and Summer season. However, the fall season usually treats us to brand new shows, shows that are usually the networks’ first picks to be a hit.
I’m particularly interested in Sarah Michelle Gellar’s new show on the CW. Eeeee! The show is a thriller and Gellar plays twin sisters: Bridget and Siobhan. After witnessing a murder, Bridget is on the run fearful of giving testimony for the case. She flees to New York to reunite with her estranged sister, Siobhan. Wealthy and married, Siobhan seems to have it all until Siobhan disappears overboard during a boat trip and Bridget makes a decision to take on her sister’s identity and life. It’s only then that she discovers that Siobhan’s life isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be.
Sarah Michelle Gellar was my It Girl in high school. I loved Buffy and seeing her again just makes me feel really nostalgic. To me, Buffy was a metaphor about the hardships of angsty teen life and the demons we had to encounter. (Okay, very cheese-tastic but I digress.) Besides Gellar, the show has some big name stars such as: Ioan Gruffudd (Fantastic Four, The Forsyte Saga), Kristofer Poloha (most recently on Life Unexpected but he’s been on a lot of TV shows) and Nester Carbonell (Hellooo, Lost?). While the CW is known for catering to the teen set (it was formerly known as The WB which aired Buffy), I could sense with shows like Nikita the network is trying to net the 20’s crowd. I’ll definitely be watching and I’ll probably post my impressions of the first episode. For those that want to watch with me, it’ll be premiering Tuesday, September 13th, 9/8 central.
From vampire slayers to vampire brethren… I have been waiting all summer for this show to return. Vampire Diaries. The show definitely knows how to leave you off on a cliffhanger (as well as linking every single town event or party to Founder’s Day, an anniversary of the town’s founding. But Founder’s DAY, shouldn’t that be for one day like Labor DAY?). Seriously though, the show did have some good cliffhangers. The first season left viewers with a cliffhanger after every single episode. It drove me nuts waiting a whole week for the next installment. At least with k-dramas, you get two episodes a week!
So here is where we are with the show. Elena will be celebrating her 18th birthday but she’s not exactly in a partying mood because her vampire boyfriend, Stefan, is with Klaus, super old, super evil… vamp-wolf? were-pire? Vampire/werewolf. Stefan’s no longer the nice Salvatore brother as he is drunk off human blood and not wanting to be found. However, Elena is determined to find Stefan again despite (hot, hot, oh so hawt… ahem) Damon pining for Elena.
Also Vampire Caroline and Werewolf Tyler seems to be getting it on, despite the fact that Caroline’s mother, the town’s sheriff knows that Caroline is a vampire. It’s gonna be a Romeo and Juliet-type of love affair and it’s gonna end in tears… and blood. Plus, despite wanting out of this whole supernatural world I think Matt will still be holding a torch for Caroline. Lastly, Jeremy is seeing ghosts of girlfriends past which affects his relationship with Bonnie. New season returns Thursday, September 15th, 8/7 central.
