Jive Monkey Playlist: 12/2/11

Conflicted.  Been listening to a lot of different artists these days.  It’s hard to choose just one that I’m going to focus on and feature.  And I go through this process every week.  This week, I settled on DJ Clazzi’s “우리 변한거잖아 (We’ve Changed)” featuring vocals by Seulong from 2AM.

It’s different from the other songs I’ve been featuring in this post.  It’s got a really retro 80’s vibe to it.  I love it and I love Clazzi.  You gotta love Clazzi’s ability to understand and make electronic noise sound so harmonious.  This song makes me think David Bowie’s gonna pop out from somewhere trying to get me to dance.  In fact, the melody has similar qualities to David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance”.

David Bowie – Let’s Dance

Although the lyrics have less of that get up on the dance floor groove to it.  It’s about a couple that’s been together for awhile but they’ve grown apart.

Seulong has been in 2AM for about 4 years now, I always felt that Jo Kwon (aka Kap Kwon) had the strongest voice in the group.  However Seulong has been coming into his own by taking on vocal projects outside of the group.  Particularly his duet with IU, “잔소리 (Nagging)”, was really popular.  I’m not sure as to who does the female vocals for this number though.

I love the video though.  It’s so futuristic like the song.  And the robot women??  They totally depict how a guy could view his girl after his feelings for her have subsided.  He’s reacting mechanically rather than emotionally.  Then I love how after the woman’s part, he has solved his rubix cube of a conundrum and he becomes human once again.

I will say it, don’t say you understand
Baby can’t be no more

Tell me this is how we feel

I will say it, don’t say you understand
Baby can’t be no more

Tell me this is how we feel
Tell me this is how we feel

Tell me this is how we feel
Tell me this is how we feel

We’ve Changed

All at once, I’m obligated to call
in order to see you
Truthfully I
wasn’t wondering about how you were
Perpetually bright, you’re truly strange too
I’d rather have you speak honestly

Tell me, aren’t we different?
I will say it, don’t say you understand
Sorry, I just can’t accept it
Baby can’t be no more

Tell me this is how we feel
In the end, we’ve changed
Like an upset stomach,
my heart feels smothered
At the mention of breaking up

Recently, we’re often busy,
nothing to fight about
The fact you smiled, I’m still grateful but,
Rather, if you hated me, I’d understand
I’d have a definite reason

Tell me, you’re not different from me
I will say it, don’t say you understand
Sorry, I can’t say it
Baby can’t be no more

Tell me this is how we feel
We’ve changed
In one moment,
my heart feels smothered
At the mention of breaking up
Tell me this is how we feel
Our love has changed
Like an upset stomach,
my heart feels smothered
At the mention of breaking up

I’ve already known that we’ve changed
If I hid it, I hoped it wouldn’t show
I hoped time would solve it
But in the end, I’ve accepted it

Tell me this is how we feel
We’ve changed
In one moment,
my heart feels smothered
At the mention of breaking up
Tell me this is how we feel
Our love has changed
Like an upset stomach,
my heart feels smothered
At the mention of breaking up

Aaaah, next week I’ll have the same dilemma on what to post.  It’s hard to pick just one from so many choices.  I could do a post about Kim Yeon Woo, IU, or YB who have all recently released an album.  But that list doesn’t include new releases that may come out next week.

Or I could skip across the globe to do a post about Coldplay‘s recent album, which I’ve been thinking about for weeks now.  Or She & Him, the duo band of the adorably, irresistible Zooey Deschanel and her partner, M. Ward.  They just released a Christmas album but… it feels a bit early for Christmas because we just had Thanksgiving.  Or perhaps, Pink Martini, an international ensemble based out of Oregon who focus on doing jazzy, loungey numbers.

Or I could go old school and do a post about Seo Ji Won, who Kim Kyung Ho covered on I am a Singer last Sunday.  Or maybe a post about Weather Forecast (일기예보 – yes, that’s actually their name) an indie band from the 90’s whose hit song was just featured this week on Flower Boys Ramyun Shop (aka FloRa, according to what I’ve been seeing on some forums but doesn’t look like it’s really sticking).

Choices, choices, choices.  Suggestions are appreciated!
