Jive Monkey Playlist: 1/13/12

I really, really like jazz music.  Have I ever mentioned that before?  Today, I’m featuring Yoon Jong Shin.

Besides playing hosts on Golden Fishery Radio Star, The Beatles Code and I am a Singer, he also still sings.

Since 2010, he’s been doing monthly projects where he releases a single each month.  It is his sort of way of musically illustrating his walk of life for that year.

“Happy New Year… with You” is actually a song he released in January 2011.  He did this song together with Pianist Kim Kwang Min because he was such a fan of his.  With this jazz number, the song draws a portrait of a winter’s night.  It’s for people who are in love, people who are longing for something, people who want to forget some things.  The melody is bittersweet but comforting.  I expect that’s because Yoon Jong Shin’s deep voice has that quality to it.  Plus, it’s all about looking forward to good things in the new year.  So on that note, I wish everyone a very, happy new year and I hope all your childhood wishes come true.

P.S. Other notable tracks from the year are: “Bababa (바바바)” which has this bossa nova beat to it and “Love Scanner” has a retro pop vibe to it.

Happy New Year… with You

Happy New Year

Happy New Year

그 한조각이라도 with you

Happy New Year

그 한조각이라도 with you

Happy New Year… with You

Happy New Year
To all the people I love
Wherever you are, whoever you’re with,
be happy
Above the snow covered ground
Your footprint creates a pathway
One of these days follow,
one of these days meet me
Go slowly and don’t tire

Happy New Year
To the people I want to see just once
Wherever you are, whoever you cover for
I’ll trust that you’re doing well without more
That’s the only thing I can do
Oh melody fly, fly far, up high
Send me some news of you

Now we’ve come a long way
Are those times fading away?
Back then, we made some kind of wish
Counting down from 10, that night
When we got together
Now I wish childhood wishes would come true

Let’s not hate what we had
Let’s not have misunderstandings
At that time, every single thing was important
Let’s go together,
a year is such a vague fragment of time
Just for that one fragment with you

Happy New Year
To those that have to forget a lot of things
Wherever you go,
if it randomly comes across your mind,
don’t worry
After all, it will pass you by
To forget it, always come find me
A warm chatterbox, for you I’ll chat away
Cheers so that you’ll forget

Now we’ve come a long way
Are those times fading away?
Back then, we made some kind of wish
Counting down from 10, that night
When we got together
Now I wish childhood wishes would come true

Let’s not hate what we had
Let’s not have misunderstandings
At that time, every single thing was important
Let’s go together,
a year is such a vague fragment of time
Just for that one fragment with you
