This week we’re looking to the future. The Giants won the Superbowl and now American TV programming should get back to normal. There are a couple of things premiering this week.
And a couple things premiering in the near future on Korean TV.
First up, Smash. I just loved the trailer.
Don’t get me wrong. This can totally crash and burn as I’ve seen plenty of shows with this Fame concept to it. Korean dramas had a slew of them last year what with Dream High, You’ve Fallen for Me, What’s Up, The Musical. However, I just love some of the cast members in it. There’s Anjelica Huston, Debra Messing, Jack Davenport (Although, I don’t think he will have any semblance to Steve from Coupling. My favorite role of his.), and Raza Jaffrey (BBC’s MI-5 aka Spooks and Mistresses). Also happy to see that there are some Broadway people on the cast list so you can expect some really great performances on the horizon.
Next, there’s The River. From Oren Peli the director of Paranormal Activity, I’m eager to see what this thriller has to offer. From the trailer it looks like it’s part Paranormal Activity, part the 1st season of Lost. A crew of researchers on a vessel try to look for a missing explorer in the Amazon. Considering the camera work, you the viewer should also play an active role in the show.
On the Korean dramascape, I’ve previously mentioned Fashion King with Yoo Ah In, Shin Se Kyung and Lee Je Hoon. Not having seen the teaser for it I don’t have any predictions for it yet. However, I so want it to be good because I like the actors.
Kang Young Gul (Yoo Ah In) doesn’t have any goals in life. When he meets Lee Ga Young (Shin Se Kyung), he starts to dream of a future for himself. Lee Ga Young has fashion in her genes and she dreams of becoming a top fashion designer.
Jung Jae Hyuk (Lee Je Hoon) is the confident guy that doesn’t have any faults but that changes when he meets Lee Ga Young. Choi Annd (Yuri from SNSD) is perfect on the outside but on the inside she’s lonely. In order to appear strong, she endures the hardships of life and wants to break free from the one she’s been living.
Finally, there’s Operation Proposal with Yoo Seung Ho. That trailer is out and it looks cute. Based on the Japanese dorama, it’s about getting a 2nd chance at the missed opportunity with the girl. It premieres Februrary 8th on cable network, TV Chosun.
Here’s hoping we’ve got some great new entertainment in our future.
