First, came the cancellation of the sitcom, What is Mom? and the decision to do away with sitcoms altogether. Then, they cancelled the popular variety show, Come to Play, hosted by Yoo Jae Suk and Kim Won Hee. All due to low ratings. Mind you, MBC doesn’t have a replacement in mind yet.
What and what? Okay, if you’re into K-entertainment you know that K-Dramas are notorious for live shooting, meaning that the cast and crew are filming maybe even up to the day the episode is scheduled to air. That’s some last minute, guerilla-style tv production.
However, I don’t see how they could do away with a whole block of shows without a plan in mind and without announcing what that plan is. It’s like putting the cart before the horse. While I get that there are many holiday programs that could fill up this month, the new year isn’t so very far away. And presumably, you want there to be an audience to watch it so you need ample time to promote it, right? Not to mention that earlier this year, MBC dealt with a strike that prohibited us from watching some of our favorite variety shows. MBC, it’s time to get your act together. So if they don’t put together some hodgepodge plan of what to air soon, get ready to see repeats or… color bars. Whatever floats your boat.
