Jive Monkey Playlist: 4/21/17

I’ve been trying to do better about promoting more female artist for these Friday posts.  I realize that sometimes my attention is easily swayed when I see new music by a male idol group I like but after listening to the plethora of other songs on my phone’s playlist and I find that I kick myself for not posting about that artist, especially female artists.  However, that doesn’t mean that I’m just going to post about any female artists.  Certainly, it’s got to be a song I love and I love it even more if its female singers who are projecting a strong powerful image.

This is my second favorite time of the year.  (My favorite being Fall when the leaves change colors.) I don’t know why but every year I get excited around the Spring Vernal Equinox because ti means the promise of warmer weather.  And then, it’s usually followed by disappointment because the weather is still so frigid.  But finally, I can shed my winter layers in favor of cute Spring dresses as I skip along sunny pathways instead of icy ones.  And to me, it also represents the chance of something new and exciting in the near future.

This week has been excruciatingly long.  Actually, ever since I came back from vacation, it’s been a stressful time at work for me because there are a lot of things going on.  I apologize for anyone that follows my reviews because I know that I have so much to catch up on.  I’ll admit that it has been making me feel anxious.  And so, for some reason I found the song for today’s playlist very cathartic.

It’s weird.  I guess I don’t really think of Monsta X as the type of group to produce calming, stress-relieving music.  In fact, they’re the opposite.  They’re the perfect group when I’m looking for a tune to hype me up.

During the day, it’s often hard to find time just for yourself.  Whether it’s spent juggling the phone and emails at work or running around doing errands or even the bustling hours of the commute rush, it’s seems like life is all about go, go, go.  Sometimes all you crave is that quiet time of the day, which is usually the night, when you can finally hear your own thoughts.  This week’s playlist is all about the ladies expressing their emotions during the most tranquil time of the day.

CN Blue and Beast, sorry Highlight, are finally back.  They’ve been busy with their own individual project but it’s nice to see them performing together as a group again.  The weather may be chilly but seeing them again makes it feel like it’s Spring.

Sometimes an artist will come along and they’ll just hit with a song that reaches your core.  It’s love at first sight, or rather first listen.  Months go by and you hope that with each new release you get that feeling you had at the beginning.  Let’s face it.  The relationship is not always going to be like that but you’re loyal and consistent.  And then, another track comes along that excites you again.  Today’s playlist, there are two artists who reignited that flame with their latest tracks.

Taeyeon is one of my favorite members of Girls Generation.  She’s adorably cute and a great singer.  As the Girls Generation are slowly figuring out what their next steps are after the group, I have to admit that I was slightly worried that Taeyeon’s talent would be backed into the medium tempo pop and ballad corner.  Don’t get me wrong because I loved Taeyeon’s single, “11:11”.  But I feel like delivered with her first studio album because I love that she’s experimenting with all different sub-genres of pop.

The album does feel like it have a lot of personal songs which is all lovely in its own way but I have to admit that I was drawn to the daring tracks.  The two tracks that I’ve selected today for the playlist really depict Taeyeon as a strong, confident woman, which is exactly how imagine she is in real life.
