Jive Monkey Playlist: 7/14/17

There’s a very important announcement that I’ll be making tomorrow.  Please be sure to stay tuned.  However, as I was preparing for that, it just made me reminisce about the blog in general.  The oddball thing is when I reminisce about myself sometimes it’s accompanied by a soundtrack playing in my head.  There’s really no theme this week other than having today’s playlist being a Summer Flashback Friday.

We’re about to start a long weekend here in the States and my brain doesn’t feel like working.  *shrug.  Is there a more perfect song to accompany my vacation brain than BLACKPINK’s new single?  Here’s hoping that you all get some needed R&R and party like there’s no tomorrow before we have to get back to the grind next week.

It’s here!  KCON NY is this weekend at the Prudential Center in NJ.  In honor of that, today’s playlist post features all the artists that will be here this weekend.  Whether there are popular songs you may heard before or songs that are not as well-known, here are some of the tracks that I’ve been listening to get pumped for the weekend.

For today’s playlist, there really isn’t a theme that ties all these tracks together, except for the fact that they are topping the charts.  Whether they are indie artists or mainstream badasses, they are today’s artists who are making some of the most creative, influential music in K-Pop today.

Gummy’s long-awaited studio album is finally out.  I don’t think I have any other reason for featuring her in today’s post other than I just believe in her talents as an artist.  They don’t call her a diva for nothing with her powerful vocals and confident disposition.

We all knew it was coming.  But a part of me wanted to be in denial of it until they officially confirmed the news that the members would be going their separate ways.  Still, Sistar was my go-to group when I needed an upbeat summer track.  I realize that this doesn’t mean that we won’t see these girls again or that they won’t ever reunite again in the future but I will miss anticipating a new album from them every time summer rolls by.

CHEEZE is an indie band that I’ve been wanting to get into for a while now. I’ve heard Singer Dalchong feature with artists like Yesung, Reddy, G2, Bily Acoustie and The Ade.  Although the band originally had 4 members and debuted in 2011, the male members have all gone their separate ways leaving Dalchong to continue solo.  Here’s to looking forward to a long, and hopefully sunny weekend, with tracks that is sure to bring sunshine into your life.

It feels like the weather has been playing games with us all Spring with deceptively sunny skies but with a chill in the air or just plain rainy weather.  With Memorial Day weekend almost a week away, I’m not looking forward to the hot, humidity of summer but the warmer weather definitely makes me feel like going outdoors to play.  Here’s a jumpstart to your summer plans with some upbeat summer tracks.

I know that Psy just released his latest album this week, which I’m still listening to and processing, but I decided to dial it back to the 90’s for this week’s playlist.  It’s no secret that I was a K-Pop child of the 90’s and I still rock out to old school K-Pop.  However, there is something to be said for songs that are timeless and groups that can reunite and make new music that sounds fresh.
