The boys are back causing mischief and chaos in the West and they’ve got two more members to join in the fun. New Journey to the West made its debut last week on Navercast with a preview into the new season and more specifically the new members that will be joining them, WINNER’s Song Mino and Super Junior’s Kyuhyun. Clearly, the two new members worried about joining the show because this type of variety show was new for them. They might be good at games but they have no idea how to be underhanded and sneaky.
I was a little worried when I saw the new cast of the Three Meals a Day with Lee Seo Jin. I guess I was so used to seeing the chemistry between Lee Seo Jin, Ock Taecyeon and Kim Kwang Kyu but I’ve been enjoying watching Eric, Yoon Kyun Sang and the cats, Mong and Kung.
When I first heard the news that Ahn Jae Hyun would be on New Journey to the West 2 to fill in for Lee Seung Gi who is in the army, I wasn’t sure how I would feel about it. However, the episode that aired this past week had me laughing so hard that I couldn’t breathe that it’s totally worth sharing. (Also, later the new season of Show Me the Money.)
I have to admit that I’m not all up on the Web-TV format as I’m more of a traditionalist when it comes to TV. I supposed that’s going to change big time with more and more shows choosing to distribute via the internet and, what we in the industry call, over-the-top service (OTT). However, I couldn’t resist not watching New Journey to the West. In some ways, the show doesn’t feel like a TV show at least when you consider how it’s edited. Rather, it’s a bunch of web shorts chronicling the group’s trip to China. In other ways, there are elements that are classic Na PD such as beautiful aerials of the city they’re visiting and games. Of course, you can’t leave out the most important part, the camaraderie between the cast members.

Na PD’s latest reality/variety show has been off to a good start. Three episodes in for Three Meals a Day and I’m already loving the sarcasm, hilarity and trickery on the show. Although I have to admit that the initial concept of the show had me scratching my head at first.
Na PD has expressed in past interviews how he always wanted to do a cooking show so when I first heard about this show I was intrigued. However, how would this show differ from the types of travel programs we’re used to from Na PD. The great thing about Na PD is that he’s always been great at challenging his cast members and uncovering the rare moments of humanity apart from the celebrity world. There’s no one who reacts better to Na PD evil wit than Lee Seo Jin.
After the end of the Peru trip on Youth Over Flowers, I spent like a week wondering what awful thing Na PD did next to the boys from Answer Me 1994 for their trip to Laos. Well we got our answer last Friday and it’s pretty awful. And what I mean by awful is AWESOME.
