Just Bananas About: Week of 2/6/17

As much as I am critical of Running Man these days, the chemistry between its members is undeniable.  It actually took me a few days to watch last week’s Running Man but when I did, I just couldn’t help rolling on the floor with laughter.  Literally.

[Review] This Week, My Wife’s Having an Affair – 이번주, 아내가 바람을 핍니다

Do Hyun Woo (Lee Sun Kyun) is a television producer who has been married to his wife, Jung Soo Yeon (Song Ji Hyo), for seven years.  Despite believing that his marriage was impenetrable, he discovers that his wife may be on the verge of having an affair.

At first, he turns to his friends, Lawyer Choi Yoon Gi (Kim Hee Won) and Ahn Joon Young (Lee Sang Yeob) for advice as they are both married.  However, Yoon Gi is a serial cheater and savvy at finding ways from his wife, Eun Ah Ra (Ye Ji Won), from finding out.  Joon Young is also unhelpful as he always believed that Soo Yeon and Hyun were the picture perfect couple and the news of the infidelity takes an emotional toll on him.  And yet, Joon Young’s own life is full of mystery as he uses work as an excuse to get closer to a fellow colleague at work, the production crew’s main writer and divorcee, Kwon Bo Young (BoA).

To make matters worse, Do Hyun’s company is interested in making a new program all about wives who cheat on their husbands. At a loss about what to do, he turns to people on the internet for their perspective on the matter.

Just Bananas About: Week of 11/14/16

Apologies for the late post this week as I’ve been enjoying some time away and just made it back home Sunday night.  I still have a lot of shows to catch up on but there were a few dramas I’ve managed to keep up with.  There have been a few dramas featuring the topic of affairs and I was curious to check out This Week, My Wife’s Having an Affair based on a Japanese drama.  Not only did I find the premise interesting but I love the main cast members.  And so, I had to wonder if the drama would be melo or if they would lean towards comedy.  I was pleasantly surprised to find that there is a good blend of both giving it a realistic, bittersweet, tragically comical feel to it.

Just Bananas About: Week of 11/7/16

It’s a sad week (or is it?) in Korean variety shows.  Kang Gary shot his final episode of Running Man which aired yesterday.  He was half of our Monday Couple, the Jerry to Haha’s Tom and our favorite squid (oh-jing-uh).  Most importantly, he graced our screens every Sunday evening with sarcastic humor and athleticism.  He will always be considered as part of Running Man’s family but somehow that made him part of our family as well.  We may not see him every week but I’m sure that he’ll grace us with his presence again as a special guest.

Just Bananas About: Week of 10/30/15

Last Sunday’s Running Man has got to be one of their most expensive sets ever.  This week’s episode featured a maze and the set design was incredibly elaborate.  While the set design was amazing (ha, get it?), I also loved that the episode felt like an old school episode with just our core cast.

[Review] Ex-Girlfriend Club – 구여친클럽

Kim Soo Jin (Song Ji Hyo) is a movie producer assigned to adapt a famous webtoon titled, ‘Meet My Girlfriends,’ into a movie. Turns out that the writer of that webtoon is someone she was once close to. Bang Myung Soo (Byun Yo Han) created his webtoon to talk about the different relationships he’s had through the years, characterizing his ex-girlfriends as a cat, lioness and a fox.
