Just Bananas About: Week of 5/22/17

Over 25 years after the end of its run on television, Twin Peaks has returned with new episodes from Mark Frost and David Lynch.  I’ll admit that I was quite young when this show initially aired on ABC back in the day.  My parents weren’t the type of people to censor me on the kinds of shows I watched as a very, young kid but I recall that the show fascinated me and terrified me at the same time.  It occurred to me that I didn’t really understand what was really going on in the show as 10 year old kid that I had to rewatch again when I was in college.  However, with this renewed interest in the series, I had to satisfy my curiosity in how this show would fare today.  There was some apprehension that it wouldn’t translate very to today’s audiences as the show is incredibly slow-paced or it would only peak interest from people who were already fans of the original series.  I found out that after the airing of the two part premiere episode that I still don’t have a clue as to what’s going on.

End of the Year TV Report (2015): Part 3

This last one is gonna be a tough one as I did not do a good job in keeping up with all of my usual American/British shows. In the last few weeks of the 2015 and until now, I’ve been trying to bingewatch on as much as I could, one series at a time. I got through some but not all so I guess my New Years’ resolution is to catch up as there are new series starting up soon!

The ratings, courtesy of Adele lyrics, are as follows:

Must Watch – “Sweetest Devotion” – The sweetest devotion hit me like an explosion
Watch – “Hello” – Hello from the other side…
Just OK – “All I Ask” – All I ask is if this is my last night with you, hold me like I’m more than just a friend
If you’re bored – “Can’t Let Go” – When did it go wrong, I will never know
Pass – “Remedy” – When the world seems so cruel and your heart makes you feel like a fool

Early Fall TV Report (2014)

WHEN YOUR DRAMA LIST DOESN’T SEEM TO GET ANY SHORTER

…you end up with permanent dark circles and never get around to posting about what you watched. I’m well overdue for a TV Report update but felt that I really needed to at least go over the Summer American programs before we get too much into this Fall Season. That post will probably happen later, hopefully not at the end of this year. Continue reading

[Review] Penny Dreadful – Season 1

STAKING A CLAIM ON THE GOTHIC NOVEL

The 19th Century penny dreadful periodical told lurid stories of a sensational nature. Based on that title, the series is a psychological thriller that weaves several classic horror stories together. The mysterious but beautiful Vanessa Ives (Eva Green) enlists the help of an American circus sharpshooter, Ethan Chandler (Josh Harnett), to do some “night work”. Together, with Sir Malcolm Murray (Timothy Dalton) and Victor Frankenstein (Harry Treadway), they infiltrate a supernatural underworld.

Just Bananas About: Week of 6/6/14

Well we only got one episode this week but I like that we got a lot of information to the questions we’ve been asking.  Boy, am I glad that You’re All Surrounded decided not to skirt around the Eun Dae Goo/Kim Ji Yong (Lee Seung Gi) issue.  It gets really awkward trying to ignore the giant elephant in the room especially not one but two main characters had their suspicions.

Mid-Fall TV Report (2013): Part 2

THE SEASONS, THEY KEEP A CHANGIN’

Now for Part 2, covering what I didn’t get a chance to cover in Part 1.  Mainly the new American and British shows with a sprinkling of the Korean ones.  Didn’t quite get to all the reviews I wanted to get to but at least I’ll cover most of them here.

First Impressions – Masters of Sex: Ep. 1 – 6

SLIPPING PAST FREUD

The series tells the story of Dr. William Masters (Michael Sheen) and Virginia Johnson (Lizzy Caplan) as they research human sexuality at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri in the 1950’s.  As they research the subject, they are met with the challenges of getting their research off the ground.  The researchers also learn a thing or two about the opposite sex and encounter various types of relationships.

Mid-Fall TV Report (2013): Part 1

SEASONS OF FALL

Smell that crisp air!  It’s the season for apple pickin’, pumpkin spiced lattes and Fall TV.  Okay, this edition will be split into two parts, mainly because new Fall American shows are still premiering.  So this American TV section will cover the past season’s finales and I’ll cover all the new shows in Part 2, when the new shows have done some settling in.
