Just Bananas About: Week of 5/22/17

Over 25 years after the end of its run on television, Twin Peaks has returned with new episodes from Mark Frost and David Lynch.  I’ll admit that I was quite young when this show initially aired on ABC back in the day.  My parents weren’t the type of people to censor me on the kinds of shows I watched as a very, young kid but I recall that the show fascinated me and terrified me at the same time.  It occurred to me that I didn’t really understand what was really going on in the show as 10 year old kid that I had to rewatch again when I was in college.  However, with this renewed interest in the series, I had to satisfy my curiosity in how this show would fare today.  There was some apprehension that it wouldn’t translate very to today’s audiences as the show is incredibly slow-paced or it would only peak interest from people who were already fans of the original series.  I found out that after the airing of the two part premiere episode that I still don’t have a clue as to what’s going on.

Just Bananas About: Week of 11/28/16

About a year ago, it was announced that Gilmore Girls would be making a revival on Netflix.  This is finally what prompted to sign up for Netflix again.  Waiting patiently through all the exciting casting news about who would return, the release of promo stills and the trailer, it was finally premiere day.  I nearly spent all of Friday alternating between watching on a tablet on my bed and watching on the TV on my couch before I got through all the episodes.  While this post is not meant to be a complete recap of the episodes, I will be going through some major plot points so be forewarned that there are spoilers ahead.

Just Bananas About: Week of 9/19/16

The Emmy Awards were this weekend.  But more on that later.  It was also Chuseok last week, which is known as Korean Thanksgiving.  And that meant a lot of Chuseok related programming which includes shows that you could watch with your families.  Superman Returns released an X-Files edition which typically includes never-before-seen footage with your favorite kids.

The special episode starts off with holiday greetings from the families.  Some of the kids are clearly too young to understand the tradition of bowing and other kids can’t resist being the mischievous pranksters that they are.  I like how each family brought their own personalities to the mix.

Just Bananas About: Week of 4/18/16

It’s been a long time since a show made me laugh so hard.  There has been a lot of hype around Conan O’Brien’s trip to Korea.  However, I wasn’t prepared for how hilarious it would actually be.

Just Bananas About: Week of 2/15/16

I’m probably one of the biggest fans of The X-Files but have to admit that I was skeptical when I first heard that they were reviving the series. Sure, I’d love to see Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) back in action but let’s face it. The series creator and showrunner, Chris Carter, hasn’t had a major hit since the series went off air. I’ve been pretty faithful as who can say that they saw the 2nd movie, The X-Files: I Want to Believe, in theaters when it came out in 2008? I distinctly remember that it was only me and two other nerds in the theater. Lol. Still, I began to get excited with each new teaser and trailer that came out.

I’d thought I’d end up talking about series revival sooner but last Monday’s episode has been my favorite episode so far. Just to a quick series overview of the episodes that’s aired so far.

End of the Year TV Report (2015): Part 3

This last one is gonna be a tough one as I did not do a good job in keeping up with all of my usual American/British shows. In the last few weeks of the 2015 and until now, I’ve been trying to bingewatch on as much as I could, one series at a time. I got through some but not all so I guess my New Years’ resolution is to catch up as there are new series starting up soon!

The ratings, courtesy of Adele lyrics, are as follows:

Must Watch – “Sweetest Devotion” – The sweetest devotion hit me like an explosion
Watch – “Hello” – Hello from the other side…
Just OK – “All I Ask” – All I ask is if this is my last night with you, hold me like I’m more than just a friend
If you’re bored – “Can’t Let Go” – When did it go wrong, I will never know
Pass – “Remedy” – When the world seems so cruel and your heart makes you feel like a fool

Just Bananas About: Week of 4/24/15

Despite the controversy of Ji Suk Jin smoking an e-cigarette on camera, it’s been awhile since I really enjoyed an episode of Running Man that I felt it was worthy to share.

This week’s episode features the latest top stars, particularly for variety television.  The guests were Noeul’s Kang Kyun Sung, Former Sechskies member Jang Su Won, Hong Jong Hyun, Son Ho Joon and Comedian Lee Byung Jae.

Just Bananas About: Week of 3/27/15

I’ve been eagerly looking forward to the series iZombie mainly because it was a Rob Thomas vehicle.  Fans of Veronica Mars might find a lot in common with this series but there were a number of factors that made this show iffy for me at first.

First of all, I get this fascination with zombies but ugh zombies.  Yes, this sounds totally superficial but vampires seem to hold a much higher sex appeal for me rather than zombies.  Secondly, I wasn’t totally swayed by the premiere episode last week.  Having said that, this week’s episode (AND the appearance of Blaine) renewed my interest in the show.

Just Bananas About: Week of 2/13/15

There’s been a hole in Sunday night programming since the end of the Breaking Bad. Vince Gilligan shows that he’s still got a unique story to tell with Better Call Saul and he certainly delivered in the two night premiere this week. Our favorite smarmy lawyer is back but this time we get to see the origins of Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) and exactly how he broke bad himself.
